Comment Period Extended for Proposed Establishment of the Pine Mountain-Mayacmas Viticultural Area
In Notice No. 107, TTB announces the extension of the comment period for Notice No. 105, Proposed Establishment of the Pine Mountain-Mayacmas Viticultural Area, until September 9, 2010. T.D. TTB-86, Establishment of the Sierra Pelona Valley Viticultural Area
Effective August 23, 2010, TTB establishes the "Sierra Pelona Valley" American viticultural area in southern California. This new viticultural area covers 9.7 square miles, and is located approximately 30 miles north of Los Angeles. The new area does not overlap or directly border any existing viticultural area. TTB Issues Guidance regarding Kombucha Products
Kombucha is a fermented tea that is typically marketed as a non-alcoholic beverage, which means that it may contain a trace amount of alcohol, as long as the overall alcohol content is less than 0.5 percent alcohol by volume. In some cases these products have alcohol contents that significantly exceed 0.5 percent. TTB is coordinating with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to ensure that kombucha products that are currently on the market comply with Federal laws. (06/23/10)
TTB Signs Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Department of Agriculture
On June 3, 2010, the MOU between the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Marketing Service and TTB was finalized. This MOU clarifies and delineates the enforcement responsibilities of each agency with respect to the labeling and advertising of alcohol beverages produced under the Organic Foods Production Act of 1990.
