Brewers and others concerned:

Purpose. The purpose of this industry circular is to advise you of the elimination of the requirement for the confirmation of the calibration of Potter Flow Meters in the National Office Meter Testing Laboratory, prior to installation in a brewery.

Background. Industry Circular No. 58-25, dated September 3, 1958, and Revenue Procedure 58-22(C.B. 1958-2, 1140) in announcing the approval of the Potter Flow Meter for measuring beer, advised that, until further notice, all such meters to be used for measuring beer transferred to the bottling tanks must have the calibration confirmed in the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax Division Meter Testing Laboratory of the National Office before they could be installed.

Change in Procedure. Since all Potter Flow Meters will now have incorporated a micro adjustment whereby adjustment of the meter can be accomplished by inspectors, it will no longer be necessary that such meters be forwarded to the National Office for confirmation of the calibration prior to installation. These meters will be tested and installed in accordance with the provisions of 26 CFR 245.31. This procedure supersedes that contained in the next to the last paragraph of Industry Circular 58-25. A revenue procedure to this effect is being issued.

Inquiries. Inquiries regarding this industry circular should refer to its number and should be addressed to the office of your assistant regional commissioner (alcohol and tobacco tax).
