USE OF PRESERVATIVE "STAYPRO (WS-7)" IN MALT BEVERAGES.

Brewers and others concerned:

Purpose. This Industry Circular is issued for the purpose of notifying brewers of the labeling requirements for malt beverages which contain the preservative "Staypro (WS-7)".

Chemical Definition. "Staypro (WS-7)" is the n-heptyl (or n-octyl) ester of para-hydroxy benzoic acid and its use as a preservative in malt beverages has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration.

Labeling. As malt beverages are considered foods under the laws of the Food and Drug Administration and as that agency requires labels on foods to show the use of preservatives, the disclosure of the presence of "Staypro (WS-7)" would be required on the labels of malt beverages containing such substance.
