PROPOSED METRIC STANDARDS OF FILL FOR DISTILLED SPIRITS

Proprietors of Distilled Spirits Plants and Importers:

The purpose of this industry circular is to inform you of errors contained in the "Notice of Proposed Rulemaking and Public Hearing" concerning metric standards of fill for distilled spirits (27 CFR Part 5) Notice No. 281.

The errors are contained in paragraph 5.38 a(b)- Net contents stated in both metric and U.S. fluid measures. The correct conversions from metric sizes to U.S. equivalents should read as follows:

1.75 liters (59.2 fl. oz.)

500 milliliters (16.9 fl. oz.)

You are reminded that these sizes, along with all others stated in Notice No. 281, are proposed sizes only and are still under consideration by the Bureau. If the above sizes are among those ultimately adopted, the final regulations will prescribe the correct U.S. equivalents.

Inquiries concerning this circular should refer to its number and be addressed to the Assistant Director, Regulatory Enforcement, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, 1200 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W., Washington, D. C., 20226.
