IN THIS ISSUEGreetings! This special edition of the TTB Newsletter announces that Mary Ryan is serving as Acting TTB Administrator, and Daniel Riordan is the Acting Deputy Administrator. MARY RYAN NAMED ACTING TTB ADMINISTRATOR; DANIEL RIORDAN NAMED ACTING DEPUTY ADMINISTRATOR
Ms. Ryan began her career in the federal government in 1991, serving in a variety of professional and leadership capacities within TTB and its predecessor, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF). Ms. Ryan was the Assistant Administrator for the Office of Field Operations from 2005-2010, where she expanded TTB’s enforcement capabilities by launching the bureau’s intelligence office, securing a new agent workforce, and leading efforts to implement a risk-based enforcement approach to address tax fraud and diversion. She also oversaw TTB’s permit and tax processing functions, improving business processes through increased automation to enhance customer experience and service levels. She served as TTB’s Deputy Chief Counsel from 2003-2005, prior to which she was ATF’s Deputy Associate Chief Counsel for alcohol and tobacco and served as a law clerk for the Honorable John Lewis Smith of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Ms. Ryan graduated from Georgetown University and Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C. She is a member of the Maryland bar and the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia.
Prior to coming to TTB, Mr. Riordan held senior leadership positions at the Internal Revenue Service, the American Red Cross, and the United States Mint, with a demonstrated history of building public trust and developing high-performing teams to deliver essential operational improvements and risk-based decision-making. Additionally, he honed his problem solving skills as general counsel for the U.S. Department of Justice Tax Division and as a senior attorney for the Office of Legal Counsel at the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Mr. Riordan earned a Juris Doctor degree from George Washington University Law School, a bachelor's degree in business administration from James Madison University, and is a certified mediator. |
