IN THIS ISSUE Greetings! This week’s top news includes proposed changes to the Santa Lucia Highlands and Arroyo Seco AVAs, new downloadable distilled spirits bootcamp presentations, and information about our laboratories passing the annual International Organization for Standardization (ISO) audit. SANTA LUCIA HIGHLANDS AND ARROYO SECO AVA BOUNDARY MODIFICATIONS PROPOSEDWe are accepting comments through September 18, 2020, on Notice No. 192, Proposed Modification of the Boundaries of the Santa Lucia Highlands and Arroyo Seco Viticultural Areas. The proposed boundary modifications for these two American Viticultural Areas (AVAs) would remove approximately 376 acres from the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA, and would also remove 148 acres from the Arroyo Seco AVA and place them in the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA. The established AVAs and the proposed boundary modification areas are located within the established Central Coast and Monterey viticultural areas. We are making this proposal in response to a petition filed on behalf of the local grape growers and winemakers. We designate viticultural areas to allow vintners to better describe the origin of their wines and to allow consumers to better identify wines they may purchase. You may submit comments electronically on this proposal and view copies of the proposed rule, selected supporting materials, and any comments we receive in Docket No. TTB–2020–0007. You also may view the proposed boundary modifications on the AVA Map Explorer. NEW DISTILLED SPIRITS TRAINING PRESENTATIONS AVAILABLEThis year we presented our new TTB Bootcamp for Distillers training series during the recent ADI Virtual Craft Spirits Conference.
