TTB Issues Regulation Streamlining Import Procedures
FY–17–07
Washington, D.C. — The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) will publish a final rule in the Federal Register on Thursday, December 22, 2016, making amendments to the TTB regulations that clarify and streamline import procedures.
These amendments also specifically provide importers the option to file TTB-required data electronically when filing entry or entry summary data electronically with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
TTB is taking this action to support implementation of the International Trade Data System (ITDS), which is an interagency program to establish an electronic "single window" through which importers and exporters may submit electronically the data required by Federal Government agencies for clearing imports and exports. Section 405 of the Security and Accountability for Every Port Act (SAFE Port Act; Pub. L. 109-347) mandates participation in ITDS by all Federal government agencies that require documentation for clearing or licensing the importation or exportation of cargo.
The amendments will be effective December 31, 2016.
To view the complete rulemaking record regarding these regulatory amendments, including the final rule (T.D. TTB–145) once it is published, see Docket No. TTB-2016-0004 at Regulations.gov.
